The scope of work for this project is a 1,070 square foot tenant improvement in downtown San Bernardino. The project involved a complete remodel of the existing floorplan. While exploring the building we found hidden historic architectural elements such as original transom windows and twelve foot ceilings. The building was originally constructed (circa 1920) but successive remodels of the building in the 1980s hid these historic features. Once discovered, the features became special opportunities to express the original historic design character that the project benefitted from greatly. The remodeled space is now a three room law office: a conference room features a coffee bar and through wall fish tank, a reception room features a historic transom and restored windows, and a private office with direct access to both other rooms. The twelve foot ceiling heights create a sense of amplitude for a law office—appropriate for a law office. A mix of carefully chosen accent, decorative and task lighting create a pleasing ambiance. Chandeliers hang perfectly from these tall ceilings lighting the space as was intended.
