PROJECT

Craftsman style Kitchen and Outdoor Entertainment Space

SolutionS

The scope of work for this 60’s style ranch home nestled in South Redlands involved three parts:  a remodel of the existing kitchen, an addition of an outd

The existing building was a modest ranch style dwelling with low-pitched gable roof.

The goal of this project was to create an inviting and relaxing, indoor-outdoor retreat, designed for cooking and entertaining.  The exterior wall of the kitchen was pushed out 4’ and the resultant space completely remodeled.  A generous island with cooktop is the focus of the kitchen.

A coffered ceiling with refined wood paneling matching the cabinetry defines the kitchen.

Two new exterior canopy roofs were added for protection from the elements.  One extends the living space out from the Family Room.  The other extends out from the Dining Room to define and shelter an exterior kitchen.  The canopy ceilings are douglas-fir decking with a natural oil finish.  For architectural presence, the dining room ceiling was vaulted.   Wood coffers finished in oak veneers define the ceiling space.

The project was a successful collaboration between the builder and architect.  Inspired by the design, the builders produced their best work.  The result is a showcase of fine craftsmanship.
