Radiological Imaging Center

A remodel of approximately 3,600 s. f. of primary care outpatient clinic space. This space was designed in accordance with CBC Sec. 1226 (OSHPD 3) Clinics.

Design Concept:

The interior design of the Women’s Imaging Suite is comprised of several zones, each designed for a specific purpose and coordinated thoughtfully with each other to create a unified design. The interior design conveys an atmosphere of relaxation and harmony. Design inspiration from the great Japanese style was included. Through an artful coordination of natural woods, iridescent tile and obscured or patterned glass, the sub-waiting room serves as a transitional area designed to relax the senses and prepare the body and mind optimally for the examination. A water feature was incorporated to introduce the sound of moving water and heighten a spa-like experience.

The examination room interiors maintain the calming atmosphere to keep the women relaxed as they undergo their specific procedures. The interior design also conveys a strong sense of medical professionalism and competence.

The ceiling design plays an important role in defining the various spaces within the suite. The color and material palette includes the ceiling treatment most appropriate for the specific space.

The ceiling design for the bone density room incorporates a virtual skylight that changes display depending on the selected theme. This feature coupled with a complimentary audio track, indeed facilitates the relaxation and comfort of the patient. A carefully coordinated variety of general, task and accent lighting was selected to highlight and compliment the interior architecture.

Project Design Program:

The conceptual floor plan includes the following spaces: Reception, Waiting Room( to accommodate 13 seats), Sub-waiting room (to accommodate 21 seats), (3) Dressing Rooms, (3) Mammography Examination Rooms, (2) Ultrasound Examination Rooms, Ultrasound Workroom (no windows), Bone Density Examination Room (no windows), Consultation Room, (2) Single Occupancy Accessible Restrooms, Nurse Work Area, Break Room, Reading Room, Soiled Linen Room, Storage Room.

SolutionS

The goal of this project was to create an atmosphere of relaxation and harmony, as if entering an elegant spa. Natural materials combined with soothing color tones and soft lighting were integrated to create this zen environment. The building program required three mammography exam rooms, a bone density exam room, two ultrasound exam rooms, a consultation room, a break room, clean and dirty linen rooms, a waiting room and sub-waiting room and dress rooms. This facility is designed to OSHPD-3 clinic standards.
